Bachelor of Science (Psychology)

Bachelor of Science (Psychology)

2 Years – 4 Semesters – Full Time

BSC (Psychology)

Overview

The B.Sc in Psychology at Vishwakarma University is a comprehensive four-year, eight-semester programme designed to provide students with a rigorous foundation in psychological science alongside practical, applied skills. Students are introduced to the full breadth of psychology - from biological and cognitive foundations to social, counselling, and industrial dimensions - while also engaging with emerging areas such as Cyber Psychology, Tele Mental Health, Forensic Psychology, and Contemplative Psychology.

Built in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP), the programme bridges theory and practice from the very first semester. Students develop core competencies in research methodology, psychological testing, and behavioural analysis, while gaining hands-on experience through community projects, internships, and a major research project in the advanced years. With Honours and Research pathways available from Semester VII, the programme caters to students who wish to pursue professional practice as well as those driven by academic inquiry and innovation.

On successful completion of the BSc Psychology programme at VU, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand foundational principles, theories, and sub-disciplines of psychology, including biopsychology, social psychology, and cognitive psychology.
  2. Apply frameworks from diverse schools of thought - humanistic, psychodynamic, behavioural, and contemplative - to real-world psychological phenomena.
  3. Demonstrate applied psychological skills including active listening, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and effective interpersonal communication.
  4. Design and conduct rigorous psychological research using appropriate statistical tools and ethical research methodology.
  5. Administer and interpret standardised psychological tests and assessments across clinical, educational, and organisational settings.
  6. Critically evaluate psychological theories, identify gaps in existing knowledge, and formulate meaningful research problems.
  7. Apply counselling and psychotherapeutic skills to support individuals and special populations across diverse cultural and social contexts.
  8. Integrate knowledge of abnormal behaviour, psychopathology, and mental health to inform evidence-based intervention strategies.
  9. Navigate ethical and professional responsibilities in psychology, including issues of confidentiality, informed consent, and practitioner boundaries.
  10. Connect psychological insights to broader societal concerns such as community mental health, rehabilitation, occupational wellbeing, and sustainable human development.

  • A future-ready, NEP-aligned programme structured across eight semesters with a carefully sequenced progression from foundational to advanced psychological knowledge.
  • Dual pathways in the final year — Honours (practice and internship focused) and Research (innovation and project focused) — allowing students to tailor their degree to their career aspirations.
  • Practical skill-building embedded throughout, including Experimental Psychology, Psychological Testing, Applied Behavioural Analysis, and Psychology Practicals in Semesters V and VI.
  • Exposure to contemporary and emerging fields such as Cyber Psychology, Tele Mental Health, Human-Computer Interaction, Evolutionary Psychology, and Contemplative Psychology.
  • Rich elective landscape with Discipline Specific Electives (DSEs) spanning Geriatric Disorders, Psychodiagnostics, Rehabilitation Psychology, Positive Psychology, and Alternative Psychotherapies.
  • Community engagement built into the curriculum through the Community Behavioural Health Project and Community Mental Health courses.
  • Learning through diverse pedagogical approaches — blending lectures, practicals, fieldwork, projects, and internships for holistic student development.
  • Adaptive to the evolving technological, social, cultural, and economic landscape, equipping graduates to practise psychology across a wide variety of modern contexts.
