The SDG-based Environment and Climate Education Session, organized by the VU Center of Sustainability Nexus (CSN) in collaboration with the Department of Computer Engineering, was held on 4th September 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Classroom 2001 A, Science and Technology Building 2. Coordinated by Dr. Kavita Kumavat and Prof. Suhas Chavan, with Dr. Jaymala Kumawat as the convener, the session aimed to raise awareness about the urgency of climate action, provide insights into climate science, promote sustainable practices, and foster critical thinking about environmental issues. It also emphasized the interconnectedness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their relevance to addressing climate challenges.

1. Mrs. Bharati S. Chavan Senior Environment Manager at Enviroresources,
Mumbai.
Mrs. Chavan provided insights into the role of environmental management in combating
climate change. She highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in industrial
operations and shared her experiences in managing environmental projects.
2. Mr. Vikrant Kulkarni Owner at Mohor Superfoods & General Manager at
UltraTech Environment Consultancy and Laboratory, Pune.
Mr. Kulkarni spoke about integrating sustainable practices in agriculture and industrial
consultancy. He shared his journey in promoting superfoods as a means to support both
health and sustainability and discussed his work in environmental consultancy.
The SDG-based Environment and Climate Education Session successfully achieved its
objectives of raising awareness and educating students on critical environmental issues.
The session provided valuable insights into the role of education in promoting
sustainable practices and emphasized the importance of taking immediate action to
address climate change.
The Green Ink Online Sustainability Essay Challenge, initiated by the Center for Sustainability Nexus at Vishwakarma University, aims to engage young scholars in meaningful discussions on sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Coordinated by Dr. Ashwini Sonawane and evaluated by Dr. Karthika Devan, the competition invites participants to explore topics such as "Accelerating Sustainable Development: Innovative Solutions for a Resilient Future" and "Zero-Waste Lifestyle: A Path to Sustainable Living." These themes are closely aligned with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), encouraging innovative, research-driven solutions to global sustainability challenges.
The Department of Psychology organized a two-day “Eating Disorder Awareness” event to celebrate Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Through various activities, discussions, and campaigns, we promoted understanding and compassion for individuals struggling with eating disorders while promoting body positivity and mental well-being. Throughout the event, attendees had the opportunity to engage in various informative sessions and activities.
On May 8th and 9th, 2024, Vishwakarma University, in collaboration with Sahyadri Hospitals Pune, celebrated Mother's Day with a series of health-focused activities. The event featured comprehensive women's health checkups, breast cancer awareness sessions, and screenings conducted by experienced doctors from Sahyadri Hospitals. Additionally, workshops on stress management skills and discussions on ideal diet compositions were held to benefit women from all walks of life. Both the female and male staff members of Vishwakarma University actively participated in making this event a success, highlighting the community's commitment to promoting health and well-being.
The Faculty of Law was established under the Faculty of Law in 2018 as a center for legal research and education. The department runs PhD, LLM, LLB and BBA- LLB programs. In line with Article 39A of the Constitution of India, which advocates for equal access to justice for all, regardless of their vulnerability based on factors like religion, race, caste, economic status, and place of birth, Vishwakarma University established the VU Legal Aid Clinic on October 26, 2021. The clinic welcomes students from the Faculty of Law and other academic disciplines to volunteer and engage in legal aid initiatives. This unique opportunity enables students to connect with diverse segments of society, gain insights into their specific legal challenges, and formulate legal remedies. The Legal Aid Clinic also conducts interdisciplinary research projects addressing socio-legal issues. It collaborates with nonprofit organizations and community-based groups to identify the distinct legal needs of marginalized populations. Additionally, the clinic collaborates with the judiciary and government agencies to enhance access to a broader range of cases and also partners with technology companies to develop digital solutions for legal issues.
An online photo competition was organized by the Center of Excellence for Energy and Sustainability in celebration of World Environment Day 2024. The theme of the competition was "Land Restoration, Drought Resilience, & Combat Desertification." The activity received appreciation from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Vishwakarma University in Pune, India, has been featured in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2024. The university is ranked among the top 401-600 globally for Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), and for Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). Additionally, it is ranked among the top 301-400 globally for Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9). These rankings reflect the university's contributions and commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Vishwakarma University in Pune, India, has achieved notable rankings in the 2024 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). It is ranked 1st among Indian universities and 11th globally in the Social Responsibility category. Additionally, it stands 4th among Indian universities and 45th globally in the Entrepreneurial Spirit category, making it the youngest Indian university in these top rankings. Overall, Vishwakarma University is ranked 6th among Indian universities and 147th globally in the Global Top 300 Universities.
