Overview

D. Pharm. (Diploma in Pharmacy) is the minimum qualification required to be a registered Pharmacist in India. With an outcome-focused curriculum for students to improve the necessary skills and adopt academic excellence for entry-level positions in retail pharmacies, hospital pharmacies as well as pharmaceutical companies.

The programme provides the knowledge of healthcare and biochemical science to prepare students for a life-long career as pharmacy education experts, clinical researchers, and pharmaceutical scientists. Students will get in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in specialized areas. It also opens the door for certain opportunities in government sectors. Furthermore, the candidate can emerge as an entrepreneur right after the successful completion of the course.

Advancement of technology in the pharmacy field and as per the requirement of the PCI (Pharmacy Council of India), the laboratories in VU are well equipped with the latest, modern scientific instruments and library with the best reference books, scientific magazines, and journals.


Outcome On successful completion of D.Pharm. programme at VU the student will be able to : :
1 Acquire the knowledge and comprehension of core concepts of pharmacy, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and manufacturing practices.
2 Demonstrate effective planning abilities including time management, resource management, delegation skills and organizational skills.
3 Utilize the principles of scientific enquiry, analytical thinking and critical thinking, while solving problems during daily practice.
4 Find, analyze, evaluate and apply information systematically and make defensible decisions.
5 Understand the human reaction to change, motivational issues, leadership and team-building issues while fulfilling professional and societal responsibilities as a responsible citizen to facilitate improvement in health and well-being.
6 Understand, analyze and communicate the value of their professional roles in society (e.g. healthcare professionals, promoters of health, educators, managers, employers, employees).
7 Honour personal values and apply ethical principles in professional and social contexts. Demonstrate behaviour that recognizes cultural and personal variability in values, communication and lifestyles while making decisions and taking responsibility for the outcomes associated with the decisions.
8 Communicate effectively with the pharmacy community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports, make effective presentations and documentation.
9 Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal health, safety and legal issues while professional practice in pharmacy.
10 Understand the impact of the professional pharmacy solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
11 Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change. *Minimum qualification for admission to Diploma in Pharmacy – A pass in 10+2 examination (science academic stream) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics. OR
