Overview

The study of statistics is essential for making decisions and developing policies. The descriptive and inferential functions of statistics form the cornerstone of development for practically all current fields. It also offers a variety of non-traditional job opportunities, from business analysts to sports analysts.

Statistics and its application to actual issues are the main topics of the B.Sc. Statistics curriculum. Even after they graduate, the course equips students with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace.

In accordance with NEP 2020 and in partnership with TCS_ION(IHP), Vishwakarma University provides a four-year degree in B.Sc. (Hons')Statistics and B.Sc. (Research in Statistics) with a specialization in Data Science. A major in Statistics and Mathematics is combined with a minor in Data Science in our course program, and students can choose from a variety of open electives in  fields like Economics, Psychology, Finance, Travel and Tourism along with Specific elective(super specialization) in a field of Data Analytics & Biostatistics.

TCS iON- Industry Honour Program (IHP) is an academic-industry partnership between VU and TCS with the goals of fostering statistical thinking among students by familiarizing them with statistical methods and their applications in various fields, providing students with the necessary decision-making abilities by fostering their skills in data analysis, and helping students get ready for their professional career in the industry.

The TCS iON Industry Honour Program(IHP) offers an assortment of courses with the goal of raising students' employability scores and developing seasoned newcomers for the market.

Academia and industry collaborated to design and deliver the programme. The training offers ongoing contact opportunities with industry experts and is in compliance with the regulatory framework.

IHP places a strong emphasis on experiential learning, leveraging the market-leading TCS iON Assessment platform for on-campus proctored assessments and assignments created by industry professionals. All students are eligible for two internships, and the top 10% of students are offered a semester-long internship. Upon successful completion of the program, a certificate with industry endorsement is offered.

Statistics is a field that involves collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data. It is a versatile field with a wide range of applications in various industries. Some of the career pathways after graduation in statistics are:

Data Analyst: Data analysts collect, analyze, and interpret large sets of data to help businesses make informed decisions. They use statistical methods and software to identify patterns and trends in data.

Actuary: Actuaries use statistical methods to analyze risk and uncertainty in various industries such as insurance, finance, and healthcare. They use data to help companies make financial decisions, such as setting insurance premiums and evaluating investment opportunities.

Statistician: Statisticians design experiments, surveys, and observational studies to collect data. They use statistical methods to analyze and interpret the data and to draw conclusions and make predictions.

Biostatistician: Biostatisticians work in the field of public health and medicine. They use statistical methods to analyze data related to diseases, medical treatments, and public health policies.

Market Research Analyst: Market research analysts collect and analyze data on consumer preferences and market trends. They use statistical methods to analyze data from surveys, focus groups, and other sources to help businesses understand consumer behavior and make informed decisions.

Quantitative Analyst: Quantitative analysts use statistical methods and mathematical models to analyze financial data and make predictions about market trends. They work in investment banks, hedge funds, and other financial institutions.

Operations Research Analyst: Operations research analysts use mathematical and statistical methods to help organizations improve efficiency and productivity. They analyze data and use optimization techniques to find solutions to complex problems in areas such as logistics, supply chain management, and scheduling.

Financial Consultant: A financial consultant is essentially the same as a financial advisor. They often offer a number of services, with their financial advice being based on the client’s specific needs and goals. In some cases, a financial consultant may have more financial planning experience than the typical financial advisor. Financial consultants usually provide investment services as well, though.

Analytics Programmers : Analytic programming combines statistical processes and programming to identify meaningful patterns in data as well as construct useful models.

Analytics managers: Analytics managers transform raw data into business insights that are useful for decision making and strategic planning. They leverage their in-depth industry knowledge to draw relevant insights and utilize complex statistical models and algorithms to deliver strategies for effective data analysis.

One can work as a specialist officer, statistician, etc. at public sector banks like SBI, PNB, and other banks like the Reserve Bank of India.
