Introduction: This field visit (case study site visit) was organized for third year (5 th sem.) students of BAIDD for the subject of Ecology & landscape; for the sake of practical approach towards their curriculum.
Objectives:
- Understanding Japanese/Zen garden principles & characteristics
- Examining various landscaping techniques used in the garden.
- To gain insights into Japanese culture and its influence on design aesthetics …as well as to learn how cultural elements can be integrated into modern interior/landscape design projects.
- To observe the use of natural materials like stone, wood, and plants with an aspect of sustainability and maintenance.
- Analysing landscape layout, colour textures with an aspect of garden design principles.
- To study plant selection & water elements used.
Activities: Students observed, examined & learnt the garden elements & principles to fulfill all the objectives. They also learned plant recognition & selection criteria of plant species.
Key Learnings:
- Deeper understanding of Landscape design principles
- Enhancement of creativity through observation of various softscapes & hardscape.
- Understanding & identifying various important terms related to Landscape.
- Identification of various plant species as per the classification of plants.
- Learning plant selection criteria.
Conclusion: This field visit was useful for students to enhance visual communication skills essential for interior design. It will be useful to improve their ability to integrate different elements observed into cohesive and aesthetically pleasing spaces.
