The School of Pharmacy, Vishwakarma University, Pune, successfully observed National Pharmacovigilance Week 2025 from September 17th to 23rd. The theme was “Your Safety, Just a Click Away: Report to PvPI.” This week-long program aligned with the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India to promote awareness of Adverse Drug Reaction reporting, safe medicine use, and medication adherence.
Key Activities
- September 17: A Pharmacovigilance Case-Study Competition was held for students, enhancing their critical thinking on ADR management. Dr. Uppu Srinivas and Prof. Bhavna Mahajan coordinated this event.
- September 18: Prof. Dr. Pawan Krishan from Punjabi University, Patiala, delivered an online Guest Lecture highlighting the importance of pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting from both Indian and global perspectives. Prof. Jyoti Sahu and Dr. Nitish Bhatia coordinated the lecture.
- September 19: A Pharmacovigilance and Medication Adherence Awareness Camp was conducted at the PMC Dispensary in Bibewadi. Patients were counseled on ADR reporting and the importance of adhering to prescribed therapies. Prof. Poonam Taru, Dr. Lida Sajimon, and Dr. Nitish Bhatia coordinated this activity.
- September 20: A Rural Medication Awareness Camp was organized at Malvali village, which is adopted by Vishwakarma University. The rural population was educated on safe medicine practices and ADR identification. Dr. Nitish Bhatia, Dr. Jaymala Kumawat, and Prof. Poonam Taru coordinated the camp.
Outcomes
The celebration saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and the wider community. The activities effectively spread awareness about pharmacovigilance, enhanced students's practical knowledge, and reinforced the School of Pharmacy's commitment to patient safety, professional social responsibility, and rural health empowerment through direct community engagement.
The National Pharmacovigilance Week 2025 was a resounding success, setting a positivebenchmark for future patient safety initiatives.
