About the
Department

The Department of Law was established under the School of Law and Governance, Faculty of Law in 2018 as a centre for legal research and education. The department started with One Year LLM and PhD Programmes and subsequently with Five Year and Three Year UG Programmes in 2019. The programmes are approved by the Bar Council of India.


We endeavour the values of academic rigour and intensive research and strive to create legal professionals par excellence.

Carving out skilled legal professionals and promoting impactful research to serve humanity.

HOD Message


Legal profession has gone beyond black robes and courtroom litigation. With the growth of technology innovations, sciences, and the complex structures of society, the demand for smart lawyers in diversified fields has increased exponentially. Legal education essentially must aim at creating thought leaders and changemakers in society. Lawyers must play an instrumental role in promoting social, economic and political justice. With this vision, the Department of law is committed to imparting rigorous, transformative and transdisciplinary legal education to create wise lawyers and citizens.

VU Legal Aid Clinic


With the vision of aiding the socio-economically weaker sections of society with free legal aid and providing the students of the Law Department with first-hand experience in dealing with the socio-legal issues of the society, the VU Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated by Mr. Pratap Sawant, The Hon. Secretary, District Legal Services Authority on 26th October 2021. The Department of Law, Vishwakarma University, Pune is committed to the Constitutional Ideals laid down in Article 39A and pledges to carry out various activities, initiatives and research through the VU Legal Aid Clinic

Departmental Activities


  • VU Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated by Mr. Pratap Sawant, The Hon. Secretary, DLSA on 26th October 2021 with a commitment to provide legal aid, assistance and awareness.
  • The first team sent by the Department of Law for the National Level Virtual Moot Court Competition stood third in the competition after 4 gruelling rounds of arguments. The team also won the award for Best Researcher. The National Moot Court Competition was organised by I - WIN IP Services and Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), DPII, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in association with Osmania University.
  • Department offered Transdisciplinary and Outcome-based 02 credits course titled ‘Understanding the Innovation and IPR Landscape’ for UG Students across the University under the vision and guidance of Professor (Dr) Prabuddha Ganguli, is Prof. Emeritus, Department of Law.
  • The selected LLM students of the Department assisted as Student Teaching Interns for the programme.
  • Samvidhan Divas or 72nd Constitution Day was celebrated by organising Guest Lecture Series on the Constitutional Principles. Scholarly sessions were delivered by Dr. Ankit Awasthi, HNLU, Raipur, Dr. Prakash Sharma, Vivekananda School of Law & Legal Studies and Dr. Nitish Navsagare, ILS Law College
  • 1st Issue of Vishwakarma University Law Journal (ISSN: 2583-2190) was published on the occasion of Human Rights Day, 10th December 2021
  • Students of BBA-LLB Second Year participated in National Short Story Writing Competition on the occasion of National Girl Child Day ‘e-Nyayaganga’ - a Pan-India Digital Legal Literacy Project of National Law Institute University, Bhopal under the aegis of Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice.
  • Students of Department of Law visited the Pune District Court for observing the settlement procedures of the National Lok Adalat on 12th March 2022.

Departmental Achievements


  • Over the two days of March 7 th and 8 th , 2022 the Department of Law, Vishwakarma University organized a Two-Day International Conference on ‘Women and Abusive Relationships: Challenges on path to SDG 2030. The conference was graced by the presence of experts from the UK, Cameroon, Cyprus and so on. Dr. Padmaja kathikar, Prof. Shruti Das and Prof. Divyanshu Priyadarshi organized the Conference.
  • Asst. Prof. Apurva Bhilare directed a short film titled ‘Aur Main Hoon’ and secured the award for ‘Best Film’ in 6th Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam International Socio-Legal Film Making Competition 2022.
  • Prof. Shruti Das published a research paper titled “Solving Investigative Jurisdictional Problem through Data Localisation” in the Scopus indexed journal named “Journal of Harbin Institute of Technology” ISSN: 0367-6234
