Workshop on “Global Sanitation Graduate School Programme”

The Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) is a platform to facilitate the development and empower the dissemination of knowledge on sanitation through postgraduate (MSc) programs, online (self-study and instructor-led) courses, face-to-face (on-campus) courses and tailor-made training so that the sanitation challenges can be embraced with deeper insight, advanced knowledge, and greater confidence. Under Global Sanitation Learning Alliances, this initiative is led by IHE Delft Netherlands supported by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

With the developing countries facing extreme challenges in areas of clean water and lack of proper sanitation facilities, this effort could bring out to the development of new era of cleanliness and hygienic world. It aims in providing an enabling environment with a vibrant community of professionals who have completed one or more educational or training courses offered by members of the School.

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand is the key partner in this GSGS initiative coordinated by Prof. Thammarat Koottatep, Professor at the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate, School of Environment, Resources and Development, by which the Vishwakarma University is recognized as the 2nd tier partners with AIT Thailand in this global mission.

In this social initiative, Vishwakarma University will be acting as nodal center in western zone of India. With the aim of development of the regenerative sanitation practicing school in the area, with the pragmatic and innovative approach, Vishwakarma University will enable students, social practitioners, environmentalists and academicians to learn about the most important and ignored subject “Sanitation”. With its online learning platform Vishwakarma University will effectively proliferate the technical and social education about Sanitation and allied areas in the country. Students opting for the course will be benefitted in multiple ways. It will improve the mental health of the people and lead to healthy society. Young generations opting for these courses will understand the real importance of sanitation in business, health and ethical aspects of life.

On 7th and 8th November, 2019, Prof. Thammarat Koottatep, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand conducted a 2-days workshop on Global Sanitation Graduate School Programmes for the faculty in Vishwakarma University, Pune. Brainstorming sessions were carried out and attended by Prof. Dhananjay Bhatkhande, Director, Water Quality Centre of Excellence and Prof. Shraddha Khamparia, Deputy Director, Water Quality Centre of Excellence organized this workshop in which faculties from different discipline of Vishwakarma University participated actively for making this workshop a great success.

Various universities from sub Saharan and south Asia are part of this great initiative.
