Visit to HoF University International Summer School


A. About Hof University of Applied Sciences


Practice-orientation, internationalization (focusing on India) and the intelligent use of resources (focusing on indoor climate systems / water) are at the heart of teaching and research at Hof University, which currently offers 28 bachelor and master degree programs in Business, Computing and Engineering. Hof’s campus in Münchberg offers a unique education in Germany because of the relationship between the economy and the Textile and Design programs. Companies of upper Franconia also benefit from the centers of excellence and institutes at the University. The three research institutes concentrate on information systems, materials science and water and energy management. The Institute for Continuing Education offers both full-time and part-time degree programs. The Bavarian-Indian Centre for Business and University Cooperation, which is affiliated to the University, boosts cooperation between Bavaria and India.

B. Course Content

The prosperity of the German economy is based on its ability to produce and deliver products very efficiently and in a continuing high quality. The success factors are a distinctive supply chain management as well as an excellent and lean production. Hof University’s summer school will give students a holistic understanding of a supply chain. Based on quality and price targets of the customers and financial demand of the company discussions related to how to manage international supply chains, how to ensure the quality demands from the customer and how to make production more efficient will be conducted in the course. In this context, the concept of lean production will also be introduced and explain the chances production 4.0 can offer.

The International Summer School on Production and Supply Chain Management covers the following subjects:

| Application systems for SCM (Administrative and industrial business processes, methods for planning and controlling the manufacturing process, introduction into SAP R/3, SAP approach for Internet of Things and Industry 4.0, integrated CAD-CAM-Chain demonstrated in our manufacturing lab) case study in the SAP R/31 system

D. Identified case study Case study:

World Class Logistics Operations: The case of Mumbai Dabbawallahs (IIM Ahmedabad) The Dabbawalas who provide a lunch delivery service in Mumbai have been in the business for over 100 years. In 1998, Forbes Global magazine conducted an analysis and gave them a Six Sigma rating of efficiency. The case examines how the Dabbawalas operate. It describes their delivery process and coding system and how they work as one team to achieve a common goal. The case also explores the future of the Dabbawalas' service in light of the changing environment.
