The fashion quotient of Pune surely went a notch higher on Saturday with the successful conclusion of Viraasat-A first of its kind annual Fashion Show put together by the students of Vishwakarma University’s Fashion Design Department.
“Viraasat” is inspired by the best of the traditions of Indian textile through a riveting line-up of contemporary designs all crafted and curated by the budding designers of Vishwakarma University. The attractions included Daboo Printing, Jute and Khun fabrics, among a host of other innovative themes , that respect our roots of tradition and environmental responsibility/ eco-friendly aspect.
The open-air setting of Liberty Square at the Phoenix Mall turned out to be the perfect venue for the talented budding designers to showcase some innovative and inspiring designer wear, all crafted and curated by them. The two hour fashion extravaganza got off to a glittering start and lived beyond its expectations.
Staying true to the schedule, the inauguration ceremony was graced by the renowned fashion expert Badal Saboo, CEO of the World Fashion Week as the chief guest. The students are well groomed and guided by Prof Avadhut Atre, Dean of Art and Design faculty along with Prof. Reena Pandye, Head of Department and her faculty colleagues. The University leadership and faculty encouraged and lauded the efforts put together by the Fashion Design students.
The Peacock Wonder theme set the tone for the evening followed by Neun Grandeur based on the ninth gate of the Pink city, the Reincarnation, the Upcycyling, the Desi Charkha inspired by Ajmeri Gate of the fabled Pink City, and Kalamkari among others spanned across two hours of riveting display of creativity on the ramp.
Depicting these themes woven around traditional textiles in the contemporary avatar, the student models swayed and sashayed with captivating panache impressing the guests and audience alike. Speaking on the occasion, the celebrated fashion leader Badal Saboo highlighted the importance of being an influencer in today's age while praising such a platform for budding fashion designers to experiment, innovate and inspire the society.
Talking about fashion and fitness, Maheer Karanjkar expressed that fitness is also being mentally strong and is not limited to a number. Known model stylist and bollywood talent trainer Harshal Mahajan stressed on the importance of keeping a healthy attitude towards personal presentation and learning by observation. Speaking on the consumption of fashion by the youth, noted fashion and brand expert Nazim Sheikh, underscored the significance of product differentiation vis-à-vis targeting the different mindsets. What with a flawless execution and smooth coordination, Viraasat 2019 by Vishwakarma University has definitely made a mark on the Pune fashion scene creating a benchmark of sorts.
