Vishwakarma University’s Center for Industry 4.0 conducted an orientation session for the students of Mechanical Engineering on Friday 9th August 2019 at VU campus. Prof. (Dr.) Y.D.Deshpande gave a broad outline about the industry 4.0 center, its need, objectives and expected role of students. Prof. Mrunmai Ranade gave a detailed talk on Industry 4.0 (I4.0) and smart manufacturing. She discussed on evolutions of industrial revolutions and salient features of 4th industrial revolution. Technological building blocks of I4.0 and its potential applications were explained. The impact of smart manufacturing on various areas like individual, society, business, economy etc. was discussed. Industry 4.0 relevant jobs and skill-sets were discussed. Challenges before India to prepare for I4.0 were explained. The session was concluded with a discussion on various activities and achievements of Center for Industry 4.0 in last academic year.
