Knowledge Resource Center of Vishwakarma University, Pune has organized One Day State Level Workshop On “Open Source Softwares: Applications in Libraries” on 30 May 2018. As program started at 9.30 with inauguration, lightening of lamp and Saraswati Vandana. prof. Vaishali welcomed all the participants and dignitaries on the Dias. Further she gives introduction about Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal Charitable Trust (BRACT), Vishwakarma Institutes, Vishwakarma University (VU) and Knowledge Resource Center (KRC) of workshop. Honorable Vice President Sir Prof. (Dr.) Wasudeo Gade addressed the participants. In his speech he stated the importance of Libraries and its role in the process of knowledge dissemination. He also throws the light on changing role of librarians in the age of information and communication and suggested that library professionals should update their knowledge as per the current scenario.
First session was by Dr .Nandkumar Dahibhate in which he discussed about applications of Open Source Softwares (OSS) in Libraries. Importance of library softwares and need of automated libraries in today’s age of information technology. Further he explained the selection criteria while choosing any Open Source Softwares (OSS), its advantages disadvantages and technical knowledge for software while using particular software.
After Lunch break second session was conducted by Dr. Londhe in that all participants got the knowledge of basic installation of E-print software and SLIMS (Senayan Library Management Systems) he told about various modules of software and features of the software. Both the sessions were very informative and useful.
Session ended with Vote of Thanks and valedictory function and distribution of certificates.
