Overview

The specialized programme is designed to inspire students to observe the world around them and draw directly from life to gain inspiration for characters and stories. The students are encouraged to discover how to think creatively and develop ideas through multiple stages, focusing on character development, narratives and performance. Bachelor of Design in Animation Art & Design is an undergraduate course of design involving components such as drawing, 3D, visual art, sculpture, storytelling etc. It is a four-year programme that aims at enhancing the image-making, critical thinking and storytelling skills of the aspirant. 

The B.Des. in Animation Art & Design programme is designed to train the students in traditional and sophisticated techniques of animation filmmaking. With the evolution of technologies, the animation industry is seeing a surge in the requirements of skilled professionals. This course prepares students with apt skills and knowledge concerning animation filmmaking. Through the medium of advanced animation skills, students are trained to develop, defend, pitch ideas and create creatively organic content for various media like film, TV, advertising, etc.

The long-term animation art and design course equips students with the right skill set and knowledge and blends this with the right amount of exposure to help them become successful animators in the thriving multimedia and animation industry.


Outcome On successful completion of B.Des. (Animation Art & Design) programme at VU (A&D) the student will be able to :
1 Produce animation and interactive projects at a professional level, from concept to finished project.
2 Demonstrate professionalism by managing time to meet deadlines with quality work and effectively collaborating in a team.
3 Develop a systematic, critical approach to problem-solving at all levels of the design process.
4 Articulate design ideas verbally, visually, and digitally.
5 Demonstrate competency in advanced 3D modelling and animation software (specifically modelling, rigging, lighting, texturing, and animation)
6 Use the software packages that are used in the industry, as well as have the ability to translate their artistic skills into any new software that they encounter.
7 Apply systems-level thinking and abstractions within the context of interactive applications.
8 Work within a team environment to create, plan and execute both original stories through the art of animation and good interactive experiences for the user.
9 Have a foundation in the history of animation that empowers graduates to make the best moving images work in consonance with the best sound, colour, perspective, and storytelling.
10 Explore video as a means of communication and be able to produce content for both animation and interactive digital media
11 Have a working knowledge of distribution methods and be prepared to approach the constant changes in media culture

  • Basic Qualification Required: Passed 12 th / 10+2 with English as a passing subject or 3years Diploma or equivalent qualification from any recognized Board / University.
  • Minimum % of marks at Qualifying Exam for Open Category: 45%
  • Minimum marks at Qualifying Exam for Reserve Category: 40%

Programme Commencement Date: 1st September 2021.

  • Rs. 3,65,000/- Per academic year (annual fees). The fees will remain the same for the subsequent years of the batch.
  • Hostel fees (if applicable) and Examination Form Fee will be charged separately.
